Hello Tami! I am an aspiring songwriter(from houston!) but I can't read music. If I am writing to produced beats then I don't necessarily need to know how to read music but I was just wondering if it is something you would suggest I learn/can I function as a songwriter(like you) without reading/writing music notes?
i can't read music that much, i only learned basics up in middle school for band and sang in chorus until high school. What matters is song structure. Check out my post on the basics of song structure here: http://tamilatrell.com/us/basic-songwrit...
Hi Tami I recently stumbled across your video in a Google search then I watched 2 of your videos explaining split sheets & publishing. Truthfully this is something that has really confused me from time to time. When I think I understand the back end & the fine print of it all I end up scratching my head another day confused once more again.
Anyways to my question, I am a producer, artist & song writer. I would like to know if I need to sign up with a publishing company to receive royalties or can I simply just sign up with a society who collects royalties on ones behalf & that's it? I am assuming that publishing splits & royalties are 2 different things, yes, no?
My last question is, from the producer perspective is it necessary for me to sign up with a publishing company & royalty society if so why & what are the benefits for signing more so with the publishing copany.
My apologies if this is repetitive but I am really confused with the publishing talk.
Thank you in advance.
